On March 25, 2019, in Beijing, the Sino-Foreign Enterprise CEO Roundtable Conference, co-hosted by the United Nations Global Compact and the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) of the State Council of China, was successfully held. More than 40 CEOs from Chinese and foreign companies and representatives from some international organizations in China attended. The roundtable, themed "Responsible Enterprises Collaborating on the 'Belt and Road' for Win-Win Cooperation and Sustainable Development," brought together business leaders and representatives from government, civil society, and the United Nations to discuss key issues of corporate sustainable development, share corporate practices, and advance the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Lise Kingo, CEO of the United Nations Global Compact, emphasized in her remarks the significant role of the ten principles of the Global Compact in realizing the Belt and Road initiative and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She noted that the Belt and Road's principles of extensive consultation, joint contribution, and shared benefits align with the core content of the Global Compact's ten principles. She expressed hope that the conference would further strengthen cooperation among all parties, push businesses toward sustainable development, and make a positive contribution to the Belt and Road initiative. Xiao Yaqing, the head of SASAC, stated that state-owned enterprises have actively responded to the Belt and Road initiative, complied with local laws and business rules, prioritized ecological and environmental protection, advanced localization, promoted local employment, and achieved harmonious coexistence with local communities, receiving high recognition from the international community and relevant countries.

During the discussions, the attending Chinese and foreign CEOs expressed that businesses should not only improve operational capabilities and seek reasonable profits but also actively practice sustainable development principles, aiming to maximize the integrated value of economic, social, and environmental factors and become promoters of civilizational progress.

This CEO Roundtable Conference was one of several roundtable meetings held worldwide by the United Nations Global Compact, as part of the "Global Goals, Local Action" campaign to globally promote the agenda. We continue to work hand in hand with the business community to push forward the 2030 Agenda.
